Prize Award for the "A Song of Love" Contest
As part of the “A Song of Love” Contest promoted by the Municipality of Porto Santo, through the Municipal Library and the Office of Culture, the participants of this contest were gathered in the Auditorium of the Public Services Building, in a symbolic session of delivery of the prize to the winning author and participating juries.
This comes from a dynamic initiative, on the occasion of the celebration of St. Valentine's Day 2021, on March 9, the letters submitted were analyzed, by the jury composed of a Music Teacher, a Portuguese Teacher and a Representative of the City Council, who met through videoconference, to choose the winning letter, taking into account the rules for participation in the contest and the respective evaluation parameters (originality, creativity, imagination, sentence construction, spelling and adaptation to the theme), and reached a decision unanimous, with the winning letter entitled "I hope", written by Dina de Vasconcelos.
In this sense, the Municipality of Porto Santo asked the Office of Innovation and Artistic Production, of the Conservatory School Artes da Madeira, which was immediately available to write the music, as well as the orchestration, in order to transform the lyrics into a song, to be presented to the community on Council Day.
The participants of this contest were gathered in the Auditorium of the Public Services Building, in a symbolic session of awarding the prize to the winning author and participating juries.

Porto Santo Island UNESCO Biosphere Reserve / LIFE DUNAS
The island of Porto Santo was announced, in October 2020, as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This classification has as main objective to affirm this Atlantic sub-archipelago as a differentiated and pioneering territory in terms of sustainability and adaptation to climate change, with a concerted strategy of harmonization between local development and respect for the conservation of nature and the enhancement of its heritage and its people.
This island is highly vulnerable to climate change, as it is an island territory with sensitive natural systems and a fragile economy, so this theme is essential for its sustainable development.
The LIFE DUNAS project contributes to the fulfillment of some of the strategic objectives of the Biosphere Reserve, such as the safeguarding, enhancement and optimization of natural, agricultural and cultural resources; promoting sustainable tourism and adapting to climate change a natural system as sensitive as Porto Santo beach.
LIFE DUNAS is 55% funded by the European Union LIFE program.
