This video was streamlined within the scope of the sociology discipline, for participation in the contest “Storytellers” - Edition 2021, an initiative of the European project READ ON in partnership with the National Reading Plan, produced on the island of Porto Santo, developed and edited by Daniela Gomes and the production by Sara Silva, who chose the work “A Chave” by the illustrious Madeiran author, Graça Alves, and which tells the story of a woman, Ângela, from the island of Porto Santo, where she did not stay much longer than the her first years of life, since both parents died, and she was left in the care of her godmother, Inês, with whom she started to live on the island of Madeira.

How long can we hold a grudge against the past? How long will we run away from painful memories?

These are some questions whose reflection and search for an answer are found in this work, by this author by profession, but, when invited to write an autobiography, she realizes that she would have to return to the land where she was born and, therefore, face the arduous memories of a sad childhood. He then travels to Porto Santo, gains courage and faces the ultimate question:

Would the key to your home still open the way to a refuge? ...
