28/10/2021 - PORTO SANTO VOLUNTEER CAMP INVOLVES 114 PEOPLE (Facebook Município do Porto Santo)
The Porto Santo Volunteer Field, an initiative of the Plantar Uma Árvore Association that had the collaboration of the Porto Santo City Council, ended work on October 26, developed in the intervention area of the LIFE DUNAS project. This was an opportunity for volunteers to get involved in ongoing projects, in which the city council is a partner, and which promote volunteering in the local community, such as the LIFE DUNAS and PORTO SANTO SEM LIXO MARINHO projects.
Between October 22nd and 26th, the Army - Porto Santo Security Detachment, 3rd and 4th year of Porto Santo's primary schools, the CACI - Activities and Training Center for Inclusion, a class of the professional education at Escola B+S Prof. Dr. Francisco de Freitas Branco, Porto Santo and a group of the technical course of Restaurant/Bar – EPHTM Pólo do Porto Santo, a total of about 114 people.
Actions were carried out to control invasive alien species under the LIFE DUNAS project, beach cleaning under the PORTO SANTO SEM LIXO MARINHO project and environmental education, such as the game of dominoes – LIFE DUNAS which aims to make known the avifauna, the dune flora and the geodiversity, through the pebbles of the beach.
With regard to garbage collection, the focus was on the issue of microplastics, collecting a total of about 10 kg, raising awareness of the highly negative impact that these plastics have on marine life.
