Common Ringed Plover. Migratory bird that visits Porto Santo in the winter months. Common on the coastline, where it can form flocks with several individuals. It feeds on fresh and salt water invertebrates.
The breeding area of this small waders is predominantly arctic (from Eastern Siberia to northeastern Canada). During winter this species migrates to the coastal areas of southern Africa.
