08/09/21 - International Literacy Day (Facebook Município do Porto Santo)
It has been held on September 8, since 1966, after the creation of the anniversary by UNESCO in November 1965.
It translates into the ability to read, write, understand and interpret texts. This time, reading and writing allow readers to acquire knowledge, as well as the development of potential and active participation in the community.
Our readers, of various age groups, increasingly frequent the space of the Municipal Library of Porto Santo. In the year 2021, in the months of July and August, the home loan of literary works doubled, compared to the year 2020. More than 500 copies were requested, which accompanied approximately two hundred readers: children's and youth literature, novels, police officers, history and personal development books.
