Opening of a new cultural hub on the island of Porto Santo (Facebook Municipality of Porto Santo)
Porta 33 project is important for the cultural formation of new generations.
President of the Government present at the opening of a new cultural center on the island of Porto Santo.
The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, was on Friday, June 25, at the opening of the “School of Life” project, which began on the island of Porto Santo at the initiative of Porta 33 – Associação Quebra Costas Centro de Arte Contemporânea, with the support of the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture and the Porto Santo City Council, which ceded the building of the former Primary School of Cidade Vila Baleira.
The objective of the “Escola da Vila” project is, on the one hand, to create a “cultural hub” for welcoming people to artistic residencies, allowing contact with the local population and developing, from there, new projects in the field of ceramics, sculpture, painting and others.
And, at the same time, return the old school to the island's school communities and the population in general, thus maintaining its educational and pedagogical mission and making them aware of the arts and occupation of leisure time.
On the occasion, Miguel Albuquerque defended the fact that today social development is not possible without creativity, so the new project that is now taking shape is an important creative and cultural formation for the new generations of Porto Santo.
The Head of Government also praised the initiative that has ensured the continued presence of Porta 33 on the island, as well as the work developed over the years in the defense of art and culture and in the promotion of artists from the most diverse areas.
