Today, in Pico Castelo, in Porto Santo, a tribute was paid to the forest regent Schiappa de Azevedo, for the important and notable afforestation work carried out during the first decades of the century. XX, with an emphasis on the green spot on the aforementioned Peak.

Schiappa de Azevedo was responsible for the first reforestation work in Porto Santo, which was devoid of forest cover, trying to reforest the island with plantations in Picos Branco, Juliana, Facho and Gandaia and on the summit of Pico Castelo.

The success obtained in this last Peak was due to the arduous and persistent work of setting up the land and building stone walls, to support and sustain the little land that existed on the slope, thus obtaining the soil and conditions for planting trees, with emphasis on the cedar Cupressus macrocarpa and the distinguished pine Pinus radiata.

After his death in 1926, the afforestation of the upper part of Pico Castelo was continued using the plantation methodology he developed.
