21/10/2021 - PORTO SANTO VOLUNTEER CAMP INITIATES FIELDWORK (Facebook Município do Porto Santo)
The Porto Santo Volunteer Field, an initiative of the Plantar Uma Árvore Association with the collaboration of the Porto Santo City Council, began its work yesterday with a presentation about the island addressed to young European volunteers who traveled to Porto Santo. This was also an opportunity to present ongoing projects, in which the municipality of Porto Santo is a partner, and which promote volunteering in the local community, such as LIFE DUNAS and PORTO SANTO SEM LIXO MARINHO.
Today, work began on the ground, in the forest nursery – Viveiro dos Salões, where some of the species of native flora on Porto Santo beach were prick. Tomorrow, the work will take place in the Calheta area, where the control of invasive species will be carried out, an activity that counts on the participation of the Army – Porto Santo Security Detachment and local companies.
Until October 26th, the volunteering field will also involve schools in Porto Santo and CACI – Activities and Training Center for Inclusion, in volunteering and environmental education actions, such as playful-pedagogical games and beach cleaning.
