19/07/2021 - Tennis Complex and new Padel courts in Porto Santo to be rehabilitated (Facebook Governo Regional da Madeira)

Last Saturday, July 17th, the Porto Santo Development Society presented the Project for Deep Rehabilitation of the Porto Santo Tennis Complex, works estimated at €690,000 + VAT. This architectural and specialty project was recently completed, so the Porto Santo Development Society (SDPS) will start the procedures for launching the public tender for the rehabilitation work.

This rehabilitation focuses mainly on the creation of two more padel courts, with all the technical conditions for the professional practice of the sport, in order to enhance the high demand that has been registered, both by individuals and by the 'Os Prophets' club. The current Padel fields will be renewed in their structure and readjusted to the regulatory requirements of the sport, in order to be integrated essentially in the training aspect.

The renovation also involves the restoration of the tennis courts, specifically on their floors and surroundings, by providing the clubhouse, reception and changing rooms with better conditions. It should be noted that the sport of tennis will not be neglected, not least because current tour operators, such as the Danish operator, maintain interest in tennis and tends to increase demand as a complement to other sporting activities (e.g. Danish handball team) .

An area for children's activities will also be created, in order to offer an alternative occupation for children looking for the 'Tennis Schools', but also for the children of regular customers, making this complex the choice for sports and leisure activities. leisure of Porto Santo families.

SDPS considers this integral rehabilitation of the development to be a priority, given the wear and tear of a development built 17 years ago, and is confident that this commitment will be essential to continue to attract new customers in the sporting and tourist areas.

The Enterprise

SDPS inaugurated the Tennis and Padel Courts Complex on August 25, 2004, with support facilities, changing rooms, reception, bar/restaurant, 6 tennis courts and 2 padel courts, when the sport of padel was still unknown. .

It was and is an excellent tourist complement to the island of Porto Santo, but it is also a space that has ensured the practice of tennis and padel sports for residents. After

17 years, the need for a global intervention and rehabilitation of this sports complex is visible, with the awareness of its contribution to a more attractive Porto Santo in the sports and tourism segment.

Last year, the Porto Santo Tennis Complex brought together the conditions for the opening of the Physiotherapy Office, an obviously important service for athletes, but also for the entire population. Aware that this service is extremely important and scarce, the SDPS is considering readjusting a larger area of services associated with sports and general health.
